Meet Dr. Spencer

I am a pediatrician and public health clinician, but that’s not what brings me to My28Days. I am a POI-er (a woman with Primary Ovarian Insufficiency), and I’m here for my POI sisters.

I first became symptomatic when I was 28 years old and in my final year of medical school. I knew about “premature menopause” both from my studies and because a lifelong family friend received a diagnosis of POI when she was my same age.

Despite coming to care with that information, my clinician gave me the wrong diagnosis. It took nearly seven years before I received my POI diagnosis.

It was only with the help of my sisters in POI, Dr. Nelson, and the Conover Foundation’s Results and Relationships approach that I found the path to the right treatments for me. It is those experiences that have made me a fierce advocate for POI, for the women with POI, the women struggling to get a diagnosis, the clinicians who care for them, and the scientists who want to improve their care.

I am here to contribute my knowledge of medicine and healthcare systems to bridge the patient experience and the clinical world.

Get Tested. Get Answers. Get Treatment.

We want women with POI to know there’s hope and there’s help. Find out more in our FAQs, Resources and through our Facebook Community.
