Allison Groff, MD

Meet Dr. Groff

I am a board certified ObGyn and obesity medicine doctor, with a special interest in the psychosocial aspects of health. My undergraduate degree was in psychology and my masters of public health was in behavioral science. I completed medical school and residency training at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, NY.

My interest in Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) started prior to medical school, when I completed an Intramural Research Training Award Fellowship working with Dr. Lawrence Nelson at the NIH. At that time, I worked closely with patients experiencing POI. My research focused on the emotional aspects of the condition. Together with Dr. Nelson and the team, I published: “Assessing the emotional needs of women with spontaneous premature ovarian failure.” (Groff A, et al. Fertil Steril. June; 83(6)1734-41.) It is a widely cited article that looks at aspects of the condition that were previously less understood.

Making accurate and evidence based information accessible is a major passion of mine. I host a podcast called HerHealthMD, covering broad topics in women’s health. The podcast has featured Dr. Nelson – at present the most listened to episode!! Additional topics have included infertility, pregnancy loss, mental health in reproductive years, and much more.

I am thrilled to be a medical adviser to my28days.org. Advocating for women with POI and other challenging and underserved conditions is my major passion. I currently works in private practice. I am also a founding medical partner at Doctorpedia, a company focused on accurate medical information, and am a physician advisor for Seven Starling which offers therapy and mental health care for all stages of motherhood including infertility and recurrent miscarriages.
